Our flight from Harrisburg to Charlotte was the scariest I've ever been on. While I was gripping Hugh and the armrest and silently praying, Georgia was yelling, "put your arms in the air, Maurice!" (That's a reference to Madagascar 2 when the animal's plane is plummeting to the ground and the King of the Lemurs thinks it's a blast). She also laughed a lot and thought the turbulence was a riot. When we landed and the drinks were all cleaned off the ceiling of the plane, I asked the flight attendant if that flight was par for the course and he said it was definitely one of the worst he's ever been on in 20 years! I came REALLY close to actually using one of the barf bags in the seat back.
Our arrival in Florida brought record lows to the region, of course. Instead of hitting the beach, we decided to go to Disney. Once we got there and settled into our room, Hughie spikes a high fever and starts a nasty chest cough. I was texting with a friend who was inside the park already and she said that it was CRAZY packed, so we just turned it around and went home. I wasn't about to take a sick kid with a fever to wait 90 minutes for the Dumbo ride.
Hughie stayed sick pretty much the whole time, but that didn't stop Georgia from enjoying the beach and pool once the weather warmed up. When Josh showed up, she was in heaven. Hughie, who wouldn't let anyone TOUCH him but me all week, jumped right into Josh's arms. It was a welcome relief!
We also went to a real rodeo, with real cowboys, and watched the bull riders. Georgia and Hughie loved it for about 15 minutes and then got restless. I could look at cowboys in tight jeans for HOURS, but it wasn't meant to be. Hughie got to experience his first ever pony ride, too. He actually got to ride two ponies because the first one, Butterscotch, was getting spooked by a man in a chicken costume. Luckily Pumpkin was unaffected by the chicken man.
We attended the world's most overcrowded easter egg hunt at a local park. They expected 1000 and 3000 showed up. It was insanity and I think my kids got 3 or 4 eggs each, and only because I body checked a few toddlers to clear a path. We had our own private egg hunt later and the kids were able to get a lot more eggs! The Easter bunny also came, leaving clues all throughout the condo -leading to Easter baskets in the hallway.
All in all it was a good, but exhausting, trip.
